Who should pursue an M.Phil in Clinical Psychology?

This course is ideal for every psychology graduate who enjoys working closely with people and have a strong interest in mental health services. Those having no interest in therapies or serving people, should not pursue this course.
It means, those who want to become a licensed Clinical Psychologist in India should pursue an M.Phil in Clinical Psychology from an RCI recognized institute.
Besides of having interest, one must have initial qualifications as well. At present, it is required to have a Master’s degree (MA or MSc) in Psychology to become eligible for the admission into M.Phil Clinical Psychology program.

What is RCI?

The Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) is an apex government council or body, which was set up under an Act of Parliament to regulate, monitor, standardize the rehabilitation services and courses in India including M.Phil in Clinical Psychology. All the institutions offering M.Phil in Clinical Psychology course must be RCI affiliated.

Important: The M.Phil in Clinical Psychology is recently renamed as MA Clinical Psychology (MA Cl. Psy.) by Rehabilitation Council of India. From 2026 onwards, all the M.Phil admissions will be made under new RCI recognized MA Clinical Psychology.
