Eligibility and Licensing:

To become eligible for MPhil in rehabilitation psychology, you must have a post-graduate degree in MA or MSc Psychology. Admissions are based on the entrance exams and personal interviews. The entrances followed by interviews are separately conducted by the institute. The syllabus of M.Phil entrances is usually the syllabus of post-graduation in a more detailed manner. The candidate is required to complete the 2 Year full-time Regular course from an RCI Recognized Institution to get the License of a Rehabilitation psychologist. The License is required to be renewed every 2 years by attending CRE Programs. The license must be renewed with a total of 100 points according to CRE Program. Individuals mandatorily in the field of disability must be registered with and licensed by the Rehabilitation Council of India.

M.Phil in Rehabilitation Psychology:

The M.Phil program is a core course in rehabilitation psychology that includes extensive theoretical inputs, as well as supervised clinical, practice in preparation for an internship to gain the professional skills needed to practice independently in the field of rehabilitation.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE AND PATTERN

A selection committee shall take admission based on an entrance examination consisting of an objective-type exam (to test knowledge base in related branches of psychology), a written test (to test the writing skills required to communicate with other clinicians/ professionals), a group discussion (to test expressive skills), and a practical to test proficiency in administering and interpreting the basic psychological tests.

RCI Recognized Institutions for M.Phil in Rehabilitation Psychology

This M.Phil in Rehabilitation program lasts two years of intensive training in rehabilitation psychology. There are very few RCI approved colleges that provide M.phill in rehabilitation psychology

The National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (DIVYANGJAN)

Location: Secunderabad, Telangana.

Eligibility: those who secured at least 55 percent in their masters can apply for the course at this institute.

Intake: The institute takes up to 15 students.

CAREER SCOPE

Rehabilitation psychologists can work in a variety of settings, including acute care hospitals and healthcare centers, inpatient and outpatient physical rehabilitation units/centers, assisted living and long-term care facilities, specialty clinics (e.g., pain and sports injury centers, cardiac rehabilitation facilities), and community agencies that serve people with specific disabilities or chronic health conditions (e.g., cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury). Others may work in or consult with the industry, provide expert legal testimony, or perform assessments and evaluations for insurance companies. They may work for private or non-profit organizations, as well as government facilities such as Veterans Administration hospitals and centers or Social Security Disability Determination offices.

In Hospitals: Rehabilitation psychologists frequently work in acute care hospitals, assisting people who have suffered serious injuries or illnesses.

In Physical Therapy Centre: Rehabilitation psychologists can work in various physical therapy centers to provide aid to physically challenged people.

Drug Rehabilitation Centers: Working in drug rehabilitation centers where a rehabilitation psychologist would help patients cope with withdrawal symptoms, and the difficulty of overcoming addiction, and teach them how to live ‘normal’ lives without substances in drug rehab centers.
