UGC-NET (National Eligibility Test) is primarily conducted by the National Testing Agency on behalf of the University Grant Commission. It is the examination for determining the eligibility of the aspirants who want to pursue a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and/or work as an Assistant Professor in a UGC Recognized University or College in India. Currently, the UGC NET exam is conducted twice a year in the months of June and December through computer-based tests.
Eligibility Criteria: The candidates must have scored a minimum of 55% (general category) and a minimum of 50% (for reserved categories) in a master’s degree.
Age Limit & Relaxation for UGC NET Psychology
Junior Research Fellowship: The candidate’s age should not be more than 30 years (as per recent notification).
There are a few relaxations as well that are provided:
- A relaxation of up to 5 years is provided to OBC-NCL /SC/ST/PwD/Third gender categories and to women applicants.
- Candidates who hold a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree are given 3-year age relaxation.
- Armed forces veterans are eligible for a five-year relaxation of their eligibility requirements, subject to their length of service in the military as of the first day of the month in which the UGC NET exam will be held.
For Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit for candidates to apply for UGC NET (Assistant Professor).
