Studying psychology at the master's level opens up a multitude of opportunities in the field. An MA or MSc degree in Psychology is a baseline for every student looking to make a career in Psychology. Most popular universities across India offer this course. A student with any bachelor's degree is eligible to pursue an MA or M.Sc in Psychology, but one should check the eligibility for a particular university before applying there because universities have set some eligibility criteria for admissions. A student with a BA or B.Sc in Psychology is eligible for admission to all the available universities. As a Master's course, it allows you to delve deeper into psychology after your graduation. You will cover topics from developmental psychology to psychotherapy; this course ensures that you are ready to enter the field of psychology as a professional at the end of two years. Some of the best colleges and universities offering postgraduate degrees in Psychology are the University of Delhi, Jamia Millia Islamia, Ambedkar University Delhi, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Christ University, Fergusson College, and the University of Calcutta, among others.
The procedure for admission to an MA or M.Sc. in Psychology varies across colleges and universities. Many institutions conduct entrance exams for admissions, and a few universities take admission on a merit basis. Entrance exams can be taken online (in CBT mode) or offline in pen-and-paper mode. Based on the entrance exam results, the candidates are called for admission. However, some institutes, such as TISS, Christ, and Manipal (MAHE), also conduct interviews for the shortlisted candidates before final selection.
Earlier, all major universities conducted their entrance tests for admission. However, from 2022 onwards, the NTA has expanded the usability of CUET-PG, which was previously known as CUCET. Nowadays, all major universities, such as Delhi University, BHU, AUD, TISS Mumbai, NSTU, and Other reputed government institutions and private universities, have also joined the CUET-PG for admission into their postgraduate courses, including MA/M.Sc Psychology courses. Besides CUET-PG, some other entrances are also important, which are conducted by the university for those who have not joined CUET yet; some of these exams include the Christ Entrance, NFSU Entrance, JMI Entrance, and MET, conducted by MAHE.
CUET-PG is conducted by the National Testing Agency, which provides a single window opportunity for the students to seek admission in these participating Universities / Institutes across the country for their postgraduate courses, including MA/M.Sc Psychology. The CUET-PG exam for Psychology consists of a total of 100 multiple-choice questions, with 75 questions from Psychology and 25 from general aptitude.
GATE Psychology exam also includes General Aptitude, Reasoning, and Comprehension with the Psychology syllabus in its exam pattern.
