The Professional Diploma in Clinical Psychology (PDCP) was established to meet the growing demand for trained mental health professionals in India. Despite the expansion of MA Clinical Psychology (RCI) (formerly MPhil in Clinical Psychology) programmes, the number of qualified mental health professionals remains insufficient. To address and bridge this gap, the PDCP program was introduced.
It is a full-time 1-year program approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). It equips psychology graduates with applied skills in mental health services, diagnosis, assessment, and intervention. On completion, trainees are eligible to apply for RCI registration as Clinical Psychologist (Associate), allowing them to work in hospitals, community settings, counselling centers, and private practice under supervision.
Eligibility Criteria for the PDCP Program
Applicants must hold an MA or MSc in Psychology (Clinical, Counselling, or Applied Psychology) from a UGC-recognised university with:
- Minimum 55% aggregate marks (General category)
- Minimum 50% aggregate marks (SC/ST/OBC categories, as per Government of India norms)
Admission Process for PDCP in RCI-Recognised Institutions
Each university or institute may follow its admission procedure, but the general admission process includes:
- Submission of Application – Candidates must apply/register at RCI-recognised institutions.
- Entrance Exam – Institutions may conduct an entrance test for eligible candidates.
- Interview or Counselling – Institutions may invite shortlisted candidates for interviews or counselling rounds.
- Final Selection – Based on entrance scores, interviews, and document verification.
