The Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) has recently announced that it will rename and restructure the MPhil Clinical Psychology programme as the MA Clinical Psychology (RCI), effective from the 2026–27 session.
However, many students remain confused, as several institutions continue to offer MPhil Clinical Psychology programmes in the upcoming admission cycle.

Why Are Some Institutes Still Offering MPhil?
RCI implemented the shift to MA Clinical Psychology (RCI) for 2026–27 onward. However:
- Some institutions had existing approvals that remain active.
- Some were granted multi-year extensions.
- A few have not yet transitioned and are still functioning under their previous approvals.
This transitional period is why the MPhil programmes still appear in RCI’s official list.
What Should Students Do?
1. Always check the latest RCI approval list.

2. Prefer institutions with extensions.
They have more stability (eg, RRU, Apex University).
3. Be cautious with red-marked institutions.
Their continuation beyond 2026–27 is not guaranteed, and in the year itself.
4. Confirm with the institute directly before applying.

1. Will MPhil Clinical Psychology stop completely?
Yes. Over the next 1–2 cycles, the M.Phil programme will be fully replaced by the MA Clinical Psychology (RCI).
2. Is MPhil Clinical Psychology from these institutes still valid?
Yes. As long as the programme is RCI-approved during your admission year, the degree remains valid.
3. Should I wait for MA Clinical Psychology (RCI)?
