Shyama Prasad Mukherji College for Women (University of Delhi) is offering an add-on online certificate course in counselling and psychotherapy under the Department of Applied Psychology, in collaboration with Utsaah Psychological Services Private Limited. This will be the tenth batch for this course.
SPM College is a well-known women’s college of the University of Delhi. It was established in 1969 in memory of distinguished academician and statesman Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherji. Today, Shyama Prasad Mukherji College has 112+ well-furnished classrooms, 7 seminar halls, a fully air-conditioned state-of-the-art auditorium with a pleasant ambiance, a well-equipped and fully computerized library, a well-equipped gym, and laboratories such as computer labs, psychology lab, and food & technology lab, etc.
Utsaah Psychological Services Private Limited was established with the aim of spreading awareness and knowledge of psychology and mental health in India. Currently, Utsaah Psychological Services offers its services in the fields of health, education, and research. Utsaah also runs Psychologs, India’s first psychology magazine.
This course is designed to provide the learner with an advanced exploration and analysis of counselling techniques as well as psychotherapy. The learner will have the opportunity to study the concepts of traditional and contemporary counselling practices and various psychotherapies under the supervision of a registered clinical psychologist, psychotherapist, and clinician.
The course modules follow a natural progression from personal development to theoretical approaches and skills practice, while also giving students insight into counselling and psychotherapy as a profession. The course enables learners to gain extensive knowledge and practical application of counselling and psychotherapy skills that can be applied in various settings such as clinics, hospitals, schools, and industries. Learners will also study psychotherapeutic approaches for different psychological disorders.
This certificate program can also be useful to professional counsellors seeking a refresher on new systems and practices in the field. The focus of the course is on developing counselling and psychotherapy skills, personal presence, and awareness of the process. Attention is also given to interpersonal and group skills.
Students will learn the basics of psychotherapy, its types, and its uses in different situations. They will also study the classification systems of different manuals, such as the ICD and DSM, along with their ethical guidelines. The syllabus further covers various psychological disorders and related difficulties.

Class Schedule and Timings: Lectures will be held on alternate days (3 lectures per week) from 03:00 PM – 04:30 PM (tentative)
Course Fee: ₹8,000/-

Students enrolled in this certificate course are required to submit the assignment assigned during the course and also need to score at least the minimum passing marks in the online exam conducted at the end of the course. On successful completion of the course, the certificate will be issued to all the candidates after the final exam.
