The Institute of Psychiatry (IOP), Kolkata, has opened applications for its MPhil in Clinical Psychology program for the 2025 academic session. The Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) recognizes the 2-year program, and the West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) affiliates it.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for the MPhil Clinical Psychology program at IOP Kolkata must fulfil the following eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants must have completed an MA/MSc in Psychology, Applied Psychology, or an equivalent qualification from a UGC-recognised university.
  • A minimum of 55% aggregate marks is required in the qualifying examination. For SC/ST candidates, the minimum required marks are 50%.
  • Candidates who completed their qualifying degree in or before 2025 are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates who completed, are completing, or are scheduled to complete their qualifying examination during 2026 are not eligible for this admission cycle.
  • The upper age limit is 40 years.
  • Applicants must be citizens of India.

Method of Selection and Exam Pattern

Selection for the MPhil Clinical Psychology program at IOP Kolkata is based on performance in the JEMAS (PG) entrance examination and the personal interview.

The entrance examination is conducted in an OMR-based offline mode. Candidates shortlisted after the written examination are required to appear for a personal interview.

The final merit score is calculated using:

  • 85% weightage from the written examination
  • 15% weightage from the personal interview

Candidates who fail to appear for the interview will not be considered for the final merit list.

Application Process and Fee

Candidates can complete the JEMAS(PG) application process for the MPhil Clinical Psychology program online by following the steps below:

Step 1: Registration

Candidates must first register by entering their basic details, including:

  • Name
  • Parents’ names
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Address
  • Mobile number
  • Email ID
  • Identity proof details

After submitting the registration form, an application number will be generated and sent to the registered mobile number and email ID.

Important Note: Details such as name, parents’ names, date of birth, and domicile cannot be changed after registration. Candidates should fill in these details carefully.

Step 2: Fill the Application Form

After registration, candidates must log in and enter additional details such as:

Step 3: Upload Photograph & Signature

Candidates must upload scanned images of:

  • Recent colour photograph, size 10 KB – 200 KB &
  • Signature, size 4 KB – 30 KB

The images must be uploaded in JPG/JPEG format.

Step 4: Payment of Application Fee

  • The application fee for JEMAS(PG)-2025 is: Rs 3000. Payment will be made online through the SBI Collect Portal, only, using Net Banking/Debit Card/Credit Card/UPI/QR Code.
  • Payment Steps:
    • Visit SBI Collect
    • Select “Educational Institutes
    • From the list of institutions, search for “West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board”
    • Click it open and fill out the form with relevant & accurate information.
    • In the “Payment Category Section”, select “JEMAS PG 2025 EXAM FEE
    • And, in “Registration Fee”, select “3000”
    • Fill the rest of the form, submit it, and pay the application fee.
  • The application fee is non-refundable.

Step 5: Download Confirmation Page

After successful payment, candidates must download the Confirmation Page. The application process will be considered complete only after the Confirmation Page is generated.

Exam Day Instructions

  • Important Documents: Candidates appearing for the JEMAS(PG) examination must carry the following documents to the examination Center:
    • Printed copy of the admit card
    • One passport-size photograph (same as uploaded during application)
    • Original valid photo ID proof (such as Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Passport, Voter ID, School ID, etc.)
  • Examination Timings: Candidates are advised to reach the examination Center at least 30 minutes before the commencement of the examination.
    • Exam Time: 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM
  • Venue: The examination will be conducted only in the Kolkata – Salt Lake/New Town zone.

Admit Card & Application Correction

  • Admit cards will be made available online on the official website. Candidates must carry a printed hard copy of the admit card to the examination Center.
  • Candidates can edit non-primary application details only during the official correction window. Details such as name, date of birth, parents’ names, and domicile cannot be changed after submission.

Merit List & Tie-Breaking

The authorities will prepare the merit list based on candidates’ performance in the entrance examination and interview process. If two or more candidates obtain the same score, the authorities will apply the following tie-breaking criteria in order:

  1. The candidate with fewer incorrect responses will be ranked higher.
  2. If the tie persists, the older candidate will be given preference.
  3. If the tie remains unresolved, the candidate who submitted the application earlier will be ranked higher.
