NIEPVD Dehradun Clinical Psychology Admissions

The Department of Clinical and Rehabilitation Psychology and Research, NIEPVD, Dehradun, has begun inviting applications for their MA Clinical Psychology (RCI) (formerly MPhil Clinical Psychology) and PsyD in Clinical Psychology (RCI) programmes for the 2025 academic session.

NIEPVD Dehradun is affiliated with Shri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University and is recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).

NIEPVD is among the seven other National Institutes under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwDs), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, dedicated to the empowerment, rehabilitation, and welfare of persons with disabilities across India.

Eligibility Criteria for the Offered Programmes

Eligibility Criteria for MA Clinical Psychology (RCI) at NIEPVD Dehradun

To get admission into MA Clinical Psychology (RCI) Programme at NIEPVD, Dehradun, applicants must meet the following criteria (applicants must have one of the following backgrounds):

  • A four-year BA/BSc in Psychology, or
  • a three-year BA in Psychology with a one-year bridge course, such as PGDRP or PDCP, or
  • a BA in Psychology with successful completion of the first year of MA in Psychology, or
  • a BA in Psychology with a completed MA in Psychology, from a UGC-recognized university.
  • Minimum Marks
    • General/UR: 55% aggregate
    • SC/ST: 50% aggregate
  • Mode of Study
    • Full-time; On-campus

NOTE: Applicants who have completed an MA in Psychology without a BA in Psychology are not eligible for this program.

Eligibility Criteria for PsyD in Clinical Psychology at NIEPVD Dehradun

NIEPVD Dehradun offers the PsyD in Clinical Psychology through two entry routes based on prior qualifications.

  • Education Qualification:
    • Normal Entry: MA or MSc in Psychology
    • Lateral Entry: MPhil in Clinical Psychology with valid RCI registration
  • Minimum Marks:
    • General/UR: 65% aggregate
    • SC/ST: 60% aggregate
  • Mode of Study: Full-Time; On-Campus
  • Additional Requirement: Applicants must have completed the qualifying degree within the last five years.

Method of Selection & Exam Pattern

Selection for MA and PsyD in Clinical Psychology programmes will be based on an Entrance Examination, which includes an Entrance Test & Interview.

Following is the Exam Pattern for both MA & PsyD in Clinical Psychology:

Application Process for MA & PsyD in Clinical Psychology

  • To get admission into the Postgraduate Clinical Psychology Programmes, offered by the NIEPVD, applicants must fill out the attached online application form (a google form).
  • Applicants must select their preferred programme, MA Clinical Psychology (RCI) or PsyD Clinical Psychology, while filling out the application form. Applicants then need to carefully fill out the rest of the form and upload all the necessary documents according to their selection.
  • After filling the form, applicants need to pay the application fee and upload the proof of payment in the google form. The application fee is as follows:
    • General/UR: Rs 5000
    • SC, ST, and OBC: Rs 3000
    • Persons with Disability (PwD): Free

1. Does the MA in Clinical Psychology (RCI) at NIEPVD Dehradun lead to RCI registration?

Yes. After completing the MA Clinical Psychology (RCI) from NIEPVD, students are eligible to apply for a license from the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). This license allows them to work as fully licensed Clinical Psychologists, with the ability to practice independently in clinical settings, conduct psychological assessments, make diagnoses, and provide therapeutic interventions.

2. Can I apply to NIEPVD Dehradun for MA Clinical Psychology without a BA in Psychology?

No. As per RCI norms, candidates without an undergraduate degree in Psychology are not eligible, even if they hold an MA in Psychology.

3. What is the difference between MA Clinical Psychology and PsyD Clinical Psychology?

MA Clinical Psychology is a two-year postgraduate programme focused on foundational clinical training, while PsyD is a professional doctoral programme with advanced clinical exposure and a longer duration. Successful completion of both programmes leads to registration with RCI as a clinical psychologist.

4. Where will the entrance exam and interview be conducted?

Both the entrance examination and interview/practical assessment will be conducted at the NIEPVD campus in Dehradun.

5. Is the reservation applicable to the PsyD programme at NIEPVD Dehradun?

No. Reservation is not applicable to the PsyD programme due to the limited number of seats (3).
