About NFSU

National Forensic Science University (NFSU) was established in 2009 and is recognized under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India. It is the world’s first university dedicated to forensic science. NFSU offers a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in various subjects and interdisciplinary areas, including Psychology.

Eligibility Criteria

For admission in the Ph.D. program, the applicant must fulfil one of the following criteria:

  • First or second year master’s students who have completed a 4-year Bachelor’s degree program or a two-year master’s program after 3 years of Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with 60% aggregate marks.
  • Candidates with a 4-year bachelor’s program from a recognized university with a minimum of 75 percent aggregate.
  • 5 percent relaxation will be given to reserved categories, SC/ST/OBCs

Exam Pattern

The admission to the PhD program will be through an entrance test for all the candidates, followed by an interview in an offline mode for admission.

  • The PhD Entrance test shall consist of 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) of one (1) mark each. The entrance test syllabus will consist of 50% research methodology and 50% domain-specific questions. Students who secure 50% marks in the entrance test are eligible to be called for the interview. A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed in the entrance examination for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/differently abled category, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories as per rules.
  • The interview would be conducted by a Ph.D. Evaluation and Admission Committee (PEAC) evaluates the candidate’s subject knowledge and motivation for research.

The university will call candidates who qualify for an interview. The University reserves the right to decide the number of eligible students to be called for an interview based on the number of Ph.D. seats available.

Application Process

To apply for the Ph.D program, aspirants have to register as a new candidate on the official website of NSFU by entering basic information. An OTP number would be received to verify; post verification, the applicants can log in and complete the rest of the application process. Submit the required personal and other details along with the requested documents. Once all the details are uploaded, make the application fee payment through online mode.

Exemption from Entrance

The candidates who fulfil the following conditions will be exempted from the entrance examination:

  • Qualified GATE/GPAT/ET/NET/JRF within a valid period
  • Candidates from any other country with a valid passport/visa and requisite qualification, or Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) fellowship awardees.
  • Professional category applicants will also be exempted.

Modes of the PhD program

The University offers a PhD in various forms:

  • Full-time/ Regular: The scholars in this mode of program are not permitted to work; however, they can apply for a fellowship available from various funding agencies. The university provides candidates with a scholarship who are not availing of any other fellowship based on the university’s criteria.
  • Part-time: Under this mode, the students are permitted to work; however, they have to submit a “No Objection Certificate” from the organisation. It must be mentioned that the candidates’ work would give them adequate time to carry out PhD program-related responsibilities.
  • Professional Category: Recognised research and development organisations, government organizations, or industries may recommend students from India and abroad for this category. 10 percent of the total intake will be from this in each academic year. The candidate should satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria and have at least 10 years of work experience to enrol in this category. The candidates would not be entitled to fellowship; however, they may receive sponsorships from their parent organization.
